I am often asked, Which water is best for drinking?

I invested and installed a water filter 15 years ago. It is a reverse osmosis filter, this costs under €500 and it filters both the chemical and physical nasties out of your water, and then it adds the minerals back in. There are other systems that go further but for me this one significantly improves water quality.

My 9-year-old daughter has said on a few occasions that the tap water we get when we are out at a restaurant, “tastes like a swimming pool.” The €500 is the best personal investment I have made in over 15 years of health optimisation. We will get to the well understood facts of water shortly but here are some less understood pieces of information, water is the most studied substance but new information is constantly popping up

  • It is well understood you are 70% water but that transfer to 99% at a molecular level. Molecularly you are 99% water. (Check out the work of Dr Gerald Pollack)

  • Water from Lourdes in France is said to have miraculous healing properties. There have been many cases of miracles. This could be attributed to several factors but it is also believed the water has a higher hydrogen content. Hydrogen is a molecule that can target inflammation in the body. Hydrogen donates an electron to atoms with an uneven number of electrons (at a biochemical level this is inflammation as atoms should have an even number of electrons), so this is not some esoteric belief, hydrogen really is miraculous.
  • Plastic bottled water – Avoid plastic bottles where possible, while its safe to assume the water is of good quality the bottles are created using a product called BPA (bisphenol A) this is a xenoestrogen which the body cannot process like normal estrogen and it ends up attaching to receptors in the body and our normal detoxification process cannot clear it down. This may result in hormonal issues.
  • Water has many classifications, it can be classified as a liquid, solid and a vapour. However a new phase of water has been discovered called exclusion zone, this is said to exist between hydrophilic (water loving) and hydrophobic (water fearing) molecules, this could have significant implications for health as our cell membranes are both water loving and water fearing. This could suggest our cells have exclusion zone water. Very little is understood about this concept which may lead to positive health breakthroughs in the future.

The Basics of water

Water is essential for life on Earth and plays a critical role in the survival and well-being of all living organisms. Clean water is one of the most import substances for our overall health. Water in its ideal state should be mineralised, clean and alive. Yes, it should be alive, in nature water flows as it hits rocks and other sediment, it captures minerals as it moves.

Water is also a circulatory system, it circulates through evaporation and rain, and it circulates through our bodies and the water systems.

It is well understood it makes up 70% of the human body. It acts as a solvent, helping to dissolve and transport nutrients, gases, and waste products in and out of cells.

In both plants and animals, water is the medium through which nutrients are transported to cells and waste is carried away.

Sweat, which is primarily water, evaporates from the skin to cool the body in hot conditions.

In humans, blood is about 90% water and is crucial for transporting oxygen, nutrients, and hormones throughout the body.

Water is vital for photosynthesis, the process by which plants produce energy. Without water, plants cannot generate the food necessary for their growth and for sustaining the food chain.

Water is necessary for irrigation, enabling the growth of crops that are the backbone of food supply for humans and livestock.

Water is indispensable for life, health, and the environment. Its importance spans biological, ecological, and socio-economic realms, making it a critical resource that must be preserved and managed wisely.
